from the Historic Churches Preservation Trust, the Friends of Kent Churches and we are hoping for another one from Marshall's Charity (this Charity's Grants Committee meets in October), but a lot of money has come from local efforts and local generosity. In July alone three-hundred pounds was raised in the village from three events: £104 at the Summer Fayre and Whist Drive; £45 at the Wine Tasting Evening, and £150 at the barbecue. As I write this more than £50 has come in from the envelope collection, and I would like to express my thanks and those of the Parochial Church Council for all this generosity.

In October there is to be another fund-raising event and I hope that this too, will be well supported. It is a 'Going for a Song' evening at the Village Hall on Wednesday October 26th at 8 p.m. Mr. Billy Buck is {organising this and if you have any items of interest, please bring them along for him to value and comment upon. The charge for the evening will be £1.

September 4th - Ian McKendrick and Caroline Seager.

FUNERALS: MAY THEY REST IN PEACE

August 5th - Marjorie Isabel Faulkner. Aged 40.
September 2nd - Jill Sedge. Aged 51.

IN MEMORIAM

Marjorie Faulkner (nee Kingsford). Marjorie's death came after much suffering due to severe diabetes, which she had for many years. Towards the end she lost her sight and the last few months of her life were extremely difficult for her. Her funeral service took place at Stockbury church on Friday, August 5th, and cremation followed at Vinters Park. Her Ashes were later buried in Stockbury churchyard. We extend our sympathy to her husband and all her family.

Jill Sedge. Jill had lived in Stockbury for many years and had played an active part in the life of the village, despite a physical disability which would have curtailed such activity for many people. She was always to be found at the various social activities, and the Mini Youth Club will miss her greatly, for she was a main stay of that group. A member of the Methodist church at South Green, she was a valued friend and her conviction was manifest to those who knew her. A memorial service was held at South Green on Sunday, September 11th, conducted by Mr. Ken Elgar, who spoke movingly and warmly of Jill's example as a mother and as a person who had hidden depths of peace and strengh. We extend our sympathy to Mr. Sedge and his family in their sudden bereavement.

Gertrude Blundell. A few months ago there occurred the death of Mrs. Gertude Blondcll, who had lived in Stockbury for very many years until infirmity made it necessary for her to go and live with relatives outside the village. I only heard of her depth a few weeks ago and thought that others may not know of it.

MAY THEY REST IN PEACE.
