THE VICAR WRITES ...
What do Christians believe? That is the title of a series of Sunday evening addresses and discussions that is being arranged for the autumn. The dates are: October 30th and November 6th, 13th and 20th; and the services will be held alternately in the parish church and the Methodist chapel at 6.30 p.m., starting in the parish church on Sunday, October 30th.
Why are we having this series? Simply because, it seems to me, there is confusion about what is involved in Christian belief, and I think that many people would appreciate the opportunity not only to listen to someone speaking about some aspects of that belief but also ask questions about them. The four subjects chosen are basic ones: GOD; JESUS CHRIST; DEATH; and PRAYER. And the speakers so far arranged are: The Archdeacon of Maidstone, the Ven. N. K. Nye, who will speak on the first two evenings; and Canon E. M. Pilkington of St. Paul's Cathedral, London, who will speak about the Christian attitude to death on the third evening.
I do hope that we shall see a lot of people on these four Sunday evenings, and everyone will be welcome. Here is an opportunity to ask the questions that are in your mind. I'm not promising all the answers, mind you! But, at least, I hope you'll have a happy and stimulating time.
Yours sincerely, Neville Brook.
