The August 1977 edition covered both August and September. There was no separate September issue.

NOT SO YOUNG CLUB

Our last two meetings have been well attended: 51 members at each. At the first one we enjoyed listening to the choir from All Saints School in Maidstone, under their headmaster, Mr. John Fulljames. These children are, indeed, very good. A warm welcome was extended to Mrs. Davy, who was with us again after several weeks of being unwell.

We are glad to hear that Mrs. Wicks has been home for a short spell and hope that she will soon be better.

Our next meeting will be on September 6th, when our speaker will be from The Samaritans. And from that thought it is an easy move to think of our summer break and to say that, should any of our members need help of any sort during the break, you can 'phone either of the following: Ike Friday: Newington 842184; Nora Clacey: Newington 842540.

By the way, we hope to be helping at the Fete and Flower Show on August 20th.

HELP THE AGED APPEAL IN STOCKBURY

In our area the appeal is to be held this year on Tuesday and Wednesday, September 13th and 14th, and the collection point will be the committee room of the Village Hall, between 10 a.m. and 12 noon, and 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on each day. Mrs. Lewis, 'Orchardlands', is kindly taking responsibility for the arrangements in Stockbury.

CHURCH FAYRE AND WHIST DRIVE

These events were held on Saturday, July 9th, and because of the repairs that are being carried out at the church a good result was hoped for. We were not disappointed! People supported both Fayre and Whist Drive, and the result was a total profit of £104.65. Details as follows:-

Fayre78.55
Whist Drive26.10
£104.65

Mrs. Reader and others on the P.C.C. organised the afternoon's events, and Mrs. Clacey looked after the Whist Drive in the evening, with Mr. Pearson acting as M.C. Mrs. Clacey has written the following note of thanks.

"I want to thank you all so much who gave raffle prizes; also for £11 in donations. I also want to thank the Vicar who kindly came along to present the prizes; this, I know, was much appreciated.

Again, a big 'thank you' to everyone. And by the way, I hope to do the same thing again nearer Christmas!

P.S. A stop-press notice: the Wine Tasting evening at Mrs. Reader's on July 12th raised about £45. Well done, and thank you.
