entirely on her own initiative, and giving everyone such a wonderful surprise. Our thanks also go to Mrs. Ingle and the members of the W.I. for giving us such a wonderful tea at the Sports, and to Mr. Burgess for organising the Sports with his team of helpers. Also, we must thank Mr. Hales and his team of helpers for their stalwart work at the Barbecue held in the evening. Colonel and Mrs. Macklen and Mrs. Auger deserve our gratitude for judging the Fancy Dress and Decorated Bicycle Competitions, both of which attracted entries of outstanding quality. Last, but not least, our grateful thanks to all of you for coming and making it such a memorable day.

SCHOOL NEWS

JUMBLE SALE: This took place on May 14th and realised £71.77 gross for the School Fund.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK: The proceeds of the collection at the School amounted to £6.50. Thank you to all who contributed to both these fund-raising activities.

JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS: In addition to the village activities, in which the children played a prominent part, a Jubilee Service was held in the school on Thursday, 2nd June, to which Managers, Trustees and members of the P.T.A. Committee were invited. A Commemoration Mug was presented to each child by Mrs. Tong, representing the Trustees, and Mrs. Mallion, representing the P.T.A. The cost of the gifts was met from the School Fund and the Mary Gibbon Charity Trust Fund.

JUBILEE DECORATION OF THE SCHOOL: I am sure that you will agree that the outside of the school for this memorable occasion was most commendable, and formed an attractive centre-piece for the events of Monday and Tuesday: I feel that a public word of thanks should be expressed to the children for making the decorations and to Mrs. Crean and Mrs. Jackson for supervising the work. Thank you, too, to Harry Boyd, Bill Allen, John Chandler, Michael Brook and Les Tong for assisting me in hanging them on the Sunday afternoon prior to the festivities.

SCHOOL SPORTS: The Sports were held on Friday, 3rd June in good weather and proved a most enjoyable function. Winchester House won the Tong Challenge Cup for the second time during the three years for which it has been competed. The results were: Winchester 123 points; Durham 99 points; York 92 points.

HARTLIP CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP

To close the past season a small party made a visit to Canterbury Cathedral on a Saturday afternoon in May. A conducted tour of the building had been arranged, but this proved a little disappointing as a large part of the cathedral was closed for repairs. However, Evensong in the nave was greatly enjoyed by everyone and made the visit worthwhile.
