SUNDAY SERVICES

Hartlip:

8.00 a.m.Holy Communion: 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays.
10.30 a.m.Parish Communion (except 2nd Sunday: Matins).
6.30 p.m.Evensong.

Sunday School every Sunday at 10.30 a.m. in the Church School.
(Children are welcome at the Parish Communion and on the last Sunday in the month, the address will be specially for the children in the congregation).

Stockbury:

9.15 a.m.Parish Communion.
3.30 p.m.Evensong: 3rd Sunday only.
(Evensong is at 6.30 p.m. in the summer).

Arrangements concerning Baptisms, Weddings or Confessions should be made with the Vicar. The Sick can be visited at any time and the Vicar is ready to make the Sacraments available to them in their homes.

Congratulations! That is the word that will be on most people's lips on the 7th June, when we celebrate officially the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth the Second. The years have gone quickly and the changes during that time have been many, but the Queen has maintained a serene dignity throughout her twenty-five years as Head of State. We are very fortunate to have her and her family, and so we add our congratulations to the Queen at this time and would express the hope that she will reign for many more years to come.

THE VICAR WRITES ...

It is always my aim in writing in the magazine to address the people of both our parishes, Hartlip and Stockbury. But this month I am writing particularly with Stockbury in mind.

To come straight to the point, the parish church of Stockbury is badly in need of support. Its congregations are small; its income is just not enough to meet ordinary expenses; it needs repairs to part of the roof and some attention to timbers in the north-west transept; and, recently, it has been the target for vandals, who have caused quite a lot of damage and inconvenience and have further strained our meagre resources. So, I am writing to ask, 'What are we going to do about it' I feel sure that there are people in Stockbury who would not want the ancient parish church to fall into serious dis-repair or .... (cont.)
