ROUND THE SOCIETIES
Mothers' Union
Members met on 20th April. The speaker was unable to come and at short notice the Vicar gave us a very interesting talk about previous vicars of this parish. One, sad to say, was in 1792 "trampled to death under the horses of a coach in seeing the king pass to Parliament House". Another more recently achieved fame by passing himself off as a lady speaker at an M.U. meeting! Members thoroughly enjoyed these glimpses into the past.

Young Wives' Fellowship
The Young Wives enjoyed a lesson on the construction, maintenance and technique of wearing that indispensable creation - the hat. We tried on some original models, and were fired with enthusiasm to take up the gentle art ourselves.
We also spent an evening watching some Barclays Bank films. These were splendid entertainment, and also very instructive. Husbands beware! We have been introduced to "that little bit of plastic".
We are now making preparations for a Cheese and Wine Party which will be held at Keith Styles on Tuesday, 2nd May, at 8.00 p.m., by kind invitation of our president. There are still tickets available and we do hope you will join us in what promises to be a very enjoyable evening.

Women's Institute
Inspector O'Donnell from the Sittingbourne Police proved a most popular speaker. He spoke on some aspects of police work, and answered questions from Recruitment and the Women's Police Force to House Breaking and Drug Addiction. He was thanked by Mrs. A. Hawkins.
Miss Wise was congratulated by the President for winning the Eastchurch Group Meeting Competition for Hartlip, with her amusing Get Well card.
Mrs. Kelvie won the month's competition with her entry of wild flowers and buds, having a total of 53 varieties! For all those members who were absent from the Meeting, Mrs. Ingle is holding weekly "working parties", in preparation for the Autumn Fair, at her home every Tuesday afternoon - "bits and pieces" are provided.

7.40 Group
A careful selection of colour slides illustrated a most diverting talk on "Holidays", given by Mr. W. C. Moore, at the meeting on 9th April. His anecdotes and advice were most helpful to the would-be tourist and gave everyone a real wish to travel abroad as widely and as soon as possible.
