FROM THE METHODIST MINISTER

It seems much less than twelve months ago since I took over the pastoral charge of the Hartlip Methodist Church and it has been a very happy year indeed. For the first time in my ministry I have been received from the very beginning both by my own Church and also by the members of the Parish Church, among whose members I feel equally at home.

Our Methodist Church at Hartlip is a typical example of a "cause" being maintained not by a large membership and thriving activities, but by the loyalty of the few. There are definite limits in a village community, to what one can do in the way of worship and church organization. But what we can do we should do.

Let this next Methodist year be a year in which each member is a living member, playing his or her part in strengthening the hands of those who do the work of the Lord and come behind in no obvious service that lies in our power to render. Remembering that it is to God we offer both ourselves and our service.

May this year be a happy and successful one in the interests of the Kingdom of God at Hartlip.

Methodist News

During the last Quarter we have been happy to receive into the membership of the Hartlip society Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Roots. Mr. Roots was formerly a member of the Canterbury St. Church, Gillingham. Mrs. Roots, until her marriage in the spring, was a very active member of the Station Road Church, Rainham.

Also during August we were glad to have several young people in the congregation from the St. Paul's Methodist Church, Gillingham, who after a walk to Hartlip had tea in the orchard behind the church and then joined us for the evening service.
