Youth Club

The Club went out two evenings before Christmas carol singing in the village and collected £5 14s. 0d., which will be sent to a national charity. As a further effort to help others, the club gave six old age pensioners 1 cwt. of coal each on Christmas Eve.

CHAIRMAN OF THE PARISH COUNCIL REPORTS:-

  1. After much effort we persuaded the Council to dig another soak-away on the Lower Hartlip Road, to accommodate the large amount of water that always collects there when it rains and also floods the cellars of the cottages. This we hope will deal with all storm water, which in the past has been, not only a nuisance but also a danger to traffic and pedestrians. This soakaway has been in operation about three months and has so far been a great improvement. Although in very heavy rain it still floods a little, the water now soon disappears. We hope this will benefit a great number of people, especially those most directly concerned.
  2. Tree, Grainy Field. The, trees that were removed by the Council during road widening are to be replaced by similar ones.
  3. Post Box and Kiosk. These are shortly to be moved nearer the road. Mr. Chambers is to meet a Post Office representative in the immediate future to discuss this.
  4. Flooding of the Street. The Council wrote to Messrs. Boot and Son, the builders, regarding the muddy water that was always flooding the Street from the Dane House building site. They were very apologetic and so far have rectified the matter.
