ROUND THE SOCIETIES
Mothers' Union
The Marriage Guidance Council is of necessity one of the silent social services, so it was helpful and right that we should have had a glimpse on May 20th of the excellent work, both preventive and remedial, that the Medway Towns branch is doing. Mrs. Pope, speaking modestly of their efforts, stressed their intention of expanding still further their work with engaged couples and young people. Upchurch M.U. joined us that afternoon, to our mutual enjoyment.

Young Wives' Fellowship
The arrangement on the pedestal from the chancel was the central "piece de resistance" in the demonstration of flower arranging by Mrs. Thompson of Rochester on Tuesday. Members' eyes were opened to the possibilities of the uses of homely hedgerow flowers and were shown how to make simple arrangements with balance and taste. To judge by the demand afterwards for the few aids which Mrs. Thompson had brought for sale, interest was greatly stimulated. Mrs. Partridge's vote of thanks was heartily endorsed.

Mrs. Trickle presided over a well attended meeting on May 11th - the first of the evening ones - and Mrs. Buchan was welcomed as a new member.
The resolutions were discussed which have been adopted for the A.G.M. at the Albert Hall, Mrs. Marshall being our delegate. Thanks were given to Mrs. Williamson for her beetle drive, which was a great success. Mrs. Rowland read the report of her visit as delegate to the Annual Council Meeting of East Kent Federation at Canterbury in April, when she was accompanied by Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Marshall as visitors.
Mrs. Wyatt was most entertaining with her talk on folk songs and their origin, members joined in the singing and it was all great fun.
Mrs. Mills gave a vote of thanks and also won the competition, which was a list of song titles mentioning the name of a place.
Tea was served by Mrs. Ward and her helpers.
Next month Mrs. Salter will be speaking on home-made pickles and the competition is for 1lb. of home-made jam. This will be another evening, meeting, 7 p.m.
