PARISH NOTES

Congratulations

To Mr. William Wakeley. He has been adjudged as having grown the best quality hops last year in the whole of the country. A great achievement and honour, not only for Mr. Wakeley but also for all who work for him in the Dane Lane hop-garden.

Best wishes

And conratulations to Mr. Roots on his marriage to Miss Iris Seymour at Rainham on 9th March.

Gift

From Col. Shand-Tully has been the repainting and re-lettering of one of the War Memorial notice-boards in the Church porch. We are most grateful for this second gesture on the part of Col. Shand-Tully, which is very much in keeping with the spirit of the Co-operative Works department, who gave their time and materials for the redecorating of the porch itself. The Memorial List now includes the names of the three who gave their lives in the last World War.

Welcome Home

And best wishes for a complete recovery of his eyesight to Mr. Michael Leonard, who was the victim of a nasty eye accident at work.

Two Guineas

Has been sent in answer to an urgent appeal for help from the Romney Marsh Group of parishes. This was to aid the purchase of a minibus (photographed recently in the "Kent Messenger"), which is regarded as an important factor in the pastoral work in this diocesan experiment.

Steady Progress

Has continued on the part of our bellringers, who have been practising and, ringing for Sunday services with marked regularity and loyalty all through the winter. Moving on from call changes we are now striving for "ropesight" by means of Plain Bob. In all this we have been greatly helped and encouraged by several ringers from the Newington and Stockbury bands, especially Mr. Gilbert and his daughter, Rosalind, and Mr. Lacey.

Churchyard Fund

House to house collection produced £22 10s. 8d. and £8 17s. 0d. has been given by former residents. Our thanks are also due to the collectors - Mesdames W. Allen, Charlton, ..... (cont)
