Kenya. The language problem was frustrating at times but caused much amusement when Mary was trying to teach Penina Japanese; we suggested that they stuck to teaching each other Sunday School choruses and learning English. We were conscious of the big difference between the uneducated Kenyan and the Japanese with centuries of civilisation behind her, but because of our common faith felt very much at one.

It was a time of great blessing to us, as we were shown so much love and appreciation by these women, and although entertaining someone from the third world made us aware of living in a materialistic society and feel that we wanted to help our poorer sister, I believe that she had more to offer us, in our own spiritual poverty.

HARTLIP W.I.

We had a very interesting talk about life in the W.T.N.S. during the war, given by Mrs. Tidy. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs. Jean Silver. Members were busy with nominations for next year's committee. Mrs. Burborough and Mrs. Holland will run the bottle stall for the Annual Church Bazaar to be held on December 2nd. Arrangements were made for the Upchurch Group meeting and also for the half-yearly meeting of the Council at Folkestone. The monthly competition was won by Mrs. Bromley, and Mrs. Macklen and Mrs. Marshall tied for second place. Mrs. Scott and her helpers provided tea.

A coach trip to Croydon for Christmas shopping is being organised and will leave the church at 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday, 28th November. Non-members are welcome to join us: please ring Mrs. Scott - Newington 842635.
