FROM THE VICAR

My dear People,

Many of you will have heard already that I am leaving the parish. I have accepted the Archbishop's invitation to go to Sandhurst with Newenden, near Hawkhurst, a united benefice with three churches. I did not ask for a move. I have been very happy indeed at Hartlip. You will, therefore, understand that the decision was an agonising one and that I leave with very great regret indeed. Please forgive this brief statement. I do not find it at all easy to write about, at the moment. In the meantime, let me assure you that there will be no slacking off, as far as I am concerned. I do not expect to move for about three months and I hope, therefore, that you will not hesitate to call upon me for advice or help of any sort in the usual way.

As I look back on Holy Week and Easter I must record how immensely helped we all were in our worship and our thinking by the presence of the Rev. Mark Everitt; not only did he give us most helpful and thoughtful addresses but he also relieved Mr. Bone occasionally on the organ. Easter morning was a truly joyful occasion, with the usual large number of communicants. The skilful floral decorating, in white and yellow, by the ladies of the Sanctuary Guild, undoubtedly assisted towards this whole feeling of joy and thanksgiving. Many casual visitors said how very attractive the church looked.

Looking forward, I hope you will all do your best to observe Rogation Sunday. Please note the special services on that day. The three services, would seem to cater for all tastes of churchgoer and non-churchgoer. June 2nd is Whit Sunday, a day of special thanksgiving for the gift of the Holy Spirit. Could all communicants make a special effort to attend the Parish Communion that morning? It would be appropriate and inspiring.

I am deeply grateful for the generous Easter Offering, which is always of help and encouragement.

Your sincere friend and Vicar,

JOHN GREEN.
