A NATURALIST'S NOTEBOOK
Ladies of Hartlip take heed, the Storks have arrived in Kent, but please do not rush out and order your prams. This is not a fairy tale or escaped Zoological birds, but a genuine wild White Stork which has arrived at Lower Rainham; in all probability on migration to its breeding grounds in Denmark or North Western Germany and was blown off course across the English Channel into Kent. This is very unusual, in fact the last occurrence of a White Stork in this county was on May 29th, 1960, at Richborough, and this bird was the first to be seen for over forty years. On the Continent it is considered to be highly desirable to have a White Stork nesting on one's house and special nest sites are erected with a large cartwheel on top of a pole or fixed to a ....
