FROM THE VICARAGE STUDY
My dear People,
All around your homes the buds of the cherry blossom are beginning to burst. New life is showing on hitherto outwardly lifeless trees. Automatically, new hope surges up in most of us the thought of Spring, of seeds germinating, of warmer weather. Perhaps some blossom will be fully out on Easter Day! How utterly suitable if it was! Completely in keeping with the message of Easter - the good news of new life in Someone outwardly dead. Nearly 2,000 years ago Jesus, the Son of God, had died on the Cross. Yet three days later He had appeared to Mary and to other friends, moving, talking, recognisable proof surely that He was alive.
Immediately new hope and strength had surged up within that scattered, dispirited group of disciples. They had some tremendous, unbelievable news! Moreover, they had something to live for, which no one could take away! This then is the unique and special character of the Christian message, different from all other religions. The empty Cross means new life, now and always. It requires only a deeply sincere act of acceptance on your part and the benefits are yours.
A very Happy Easter to you all.
Your sincere friend and Vicar,
JOHN GREEN.
