Young Wives' Fellowship

April 7th, Outing to hear "Rose Marie", by Maidstone A.O. Society.

Leaving Hartlip Hill behind, we entered the Canadian Rockies. The original Rose Marie would hardly be eligible for our group, but the appealing Indian Love Call echoed in our ears as we finished the evening with an ample, well-served meal, and returned to live our own lives happily ever after.

April 21st, Stork Margarine Demonstration (Demonstrator: Miss Little)

Miss Little proved herself to be a poised and competent pastry artist. Despite an unfamiliar cooker, she coped admirably, convincing all thirty of us that we could produce, as she did, professionally decorated cakes and choux puffs. This Lancashire girl with a friendly smile, did not overemphasise her product, she just used it, and left us to judge. The Cookery Service provided each Y.W.F. member with two booklets on "Feeding the Family", and invited us to go home and "Beat the Clock with Stork".

Christian Fellowship

The Joint Service, held in the Methodist Church on 9th April, was not so well attended as we had hoped. This was a great pity, not least because so many people missed a most helpful address from the Vicar on some practical methods of applying Christianity to our everyday life. The Service was conducted by the Methodist minister and afterwards we had a "get-together" over a cup of tea in the schoolroom.

The Car Rally on 25th April was a great success, with 18 cars taking part. A tremendous amount of preparatory work had been carried, out, mainly by Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Green, the Vicar and Mr. W. Allen, to make an amusing and enjoyable evening for all taking part. Finding violets or a piece of tarmac after dark is no easy matter! It was also a great thrill for most of us to see the vintage car which Mr. Andrews so kindly brought along - a 1901 Benz, a fitting sequel to our film evening with "Genevieve". Over refreshments (again in the hands of Mrs. Stevens) prizes were presented to Messrs. Moore, Croucher, Lawrence, Cork and D. Lloyd; these were generously given by Messrs. Pullers of Sittingbourne, as last year.

The evening brought to an end the 1963/4 programme of the Fellowship. Although our main object has been true Christian fellowship in Hartlip, we have at the same time raised over £30 for distribution to charitable causes. May we thank all those who have contributed in any way to this successful year and we look forward to further joint efforts in the autumn.

The meeting was held at 2.30 p.m. on 14th April, with Mrs. Lawrence presiding. Mrs. K. Stephens and Mrs. Marshall were elected delegates for the Annual Council Meeting of the E.K.F.W.I. Mrs. Kelvie has been busy with her sale of woollens again and has raised 10/6. We were disappointed that the speaker, who was to have been the Governor of Maidstone Gaol, was unable to come, but at very short notice a substitute programme was arranged in the form of a quiz on various subjects and opinions, and this proved to be very entertaining indeed. The Best Snapshot of an animal was judged by Mrs. Green, who awarded the prize to Mrs. K. Stephens. Mrs. Partridge was hostess, helped by Mesdames J. Ward, Garrett and Holt.

Members are reminded that the next meeting will be at 7 p.m. on 12th May, when the speaker will be Mr. Denys Darby, M.R.C.V.S. and he will talk on "the Canine's G.P.".
