Guide and Brownies

The Brownie Pack are happy and flourishing! We have just had our first Pack holiday week-end at Pax Wood - the Kent Guide and Brownie house.

We had a very happy and successful week-end, getting to know each other, playing and working together. It was great fun and the Brownies were splendid. We should like to thank Mrs. Allen and Mrs. Pemble for their invaluable assistance.

The Guide Company. Most of the Guides went to the Discoverer's Camp, for the S.E. area of England; unfortunately it was muddy and rather wet, but they did extremely well in difficult circumstances and I was proud of them! Mary Jarrett was chosen to lunch with the Princess Royal.

Saturday, July 11th, is a red-letter day for Kent West. Lady Baden Powell is going to open the new County Headquarters in the grounds of Pax Wood. The Guides and Brownies are going by coach, and we are all hoping for a glorious day! It is a great opportunity to see the rest of our County. 6,000 members are expected, and the day will end with a huge Camp fire. Our two Queens Guides will be in the guard of honour.

This year the Company camp will be at Icklesham near Winchelsea, Sussex, from July 24th-31st. We are delighted and proud to tell you that Penny Franklin has been chosen to go to a French National Camp, July 19th-31st. Twenty guides were invited from England. This is a great honour and we all wish her the best of luck and good camping!

Cricket Club

Before the weather caused two successive fixtures to be cancelled, the Club lost to a moderate A.P.C.M. XI (mainly due to poor batting) and did well to beat a strong Seeboard team at Milton. Selling fully deserved his analysis and Barry Carlton bowled at medium pace throughout our opponents' innings. We hope that even more of the village will come and support us at our home matches. Finally we wish to record with deep regret the passing of Mr. Webb, our President for a good many years.
