Former Vicar

Of Hartlip (1938-40), Rev. Albert Charles Trench, died on June 11th at Port of Spain, Trinidad, aged 80. Though only Vicar for two years he is still remembered with affection and gratitude. Resiging this benefice to become Vicar of Marabella and Claxton Bay, Trinidad, Mr. Trench had been a Canon of Holy Trinity, Port of Spain, since 1955.

In Hospital

Is Mrs. Miles, our Health Visitor and member of the Church Council, who has undergone an operation on her arthiritic hip. Her stay may be about six weeks. We all wish her a quick recovery and return home and greatly improved movement.

Flash-back

To last month's issue and the first three articles of the inset. These are well worth reading, particularly after our own church's contrasting, on Southern TV recently, with the new unusual-shaped church at Twiddle Green, Rainham.

ROUND THE SOCIETIES

Mothers' Union

In spite of a by-election and doubtful weather the fifteen members all thoroughly enjoyed their day's outing. We began with a coffee and quick glimpse of the attractive broad High Street of Tenterden, and then on to Rye for lunch and a longer stay - to inspect the narrow streets with their excellent shops and a look inside the lovely old church with its interesting ancient clock. On then through the Marshes to New Romney, where we were given a very warm welcome from their M.U. Branch, a pleasant tea and a combined service in their beautiful church; finally to return to Hartlip through the heaviest rain of the day. Our grateful thanks go to the vicar for ably driving most of us in a minibus and to Mrs. Williamson for coping with herds of cows and unknown roads but always managing to be at the right place at the right time.
