Young Wives' Fellowship

Young Wives'

On 21st November the Young Wives met at Burwell Grange, where they greatly enjoyed Mrs. Ward's hospitality and the lecture given by Mrs. F. Scott. The heat and dirt, the colour and smells of Southern Mexico were all described vividly. It seemed very far away from a grey autumn in England. On the whole, England seemed preferable, specially when we consider the low standards of hygiene consequent on a permanent water shortage. At our following meeting Miss Ivy Chapman described how a colourful life is equally possible in this country, and we were delighted by her lively account of war work in the Land Army, which she combined with a part-time singing career and a major role in the establishment of Ladies Football teams in the South of England.

We give a warm welcome to anyone who would like to join us in our New Year party on 9th January. Tickets are available from any of our members.

Our President, Mrs. Ingle, welcomed members and guests to the 16th birthday party on 28th November. The programme included a fashion show by Hulburd's, the competition for a carnival hat (won by Mrs. Tong) and, following a buffet supper, community singing, with Mr. Moore on the piano. At the December meeting, when Mrs. Shorey was welcomed as a new member, Miss Larken gave a talk on "Easier work in the garden" and also showed some beautiful dried flower arrangements. She judged the competition for a Christmas table decoration, won by Mrs. Partridge. Mrs. Kelvie won first prize for competition entries throughout the year.

Members are reminded that sewing meetings will be held at Acorn Cottage on Tuesdays at 2.30, commencing 2nd January, in preparation for the Spring Fair. On 24th January, at 7.30 p.m., we are having an Open Evening at the Village Hall for the showing of film transparencies. Please come, bringing your friends and films, so that we! can share your holiday memories.
