CHRISTIAN AID WEEK - 16th - 21st MAY

The tenth Christian Aid Week. An annual, country-wide event that is involving more and more people, including about 300,000 voluntary workers. Here in Hartlip, too, I am delighted to say that our Youth Club are this year throwing their full weight into our local effort by staging a special Dance and Draw. So you can enjoy yourself and help an excellent cause. But - as last year - there are other ways of helping, suitable for people of every age and means. I ask you again, ALL OF YOU, to make sure that the Christian Churches, working together and in consultation with world governments, can go on, caring for those in need. Incidentally, the money is not spent only on food and clothing. The stress is more and more on teaching the backward peoples how to grow more food, for instance, of last month's allocation of £80,000, at least half that amount went to farm institutes and similar establishments.

Last year Hartlip sent £46. Surely we can do better than that? As it is, the tenth anniversary, what about a record amount? Here are the ways you can do it.

  1. Give direct into one of the LOAF COLLECTING-BOXES.
  2. Go to the Youth Club's CHARITY DANCE and DRAW on Saturday, 21st May, at the Village Hall. Dancing 8 - 11.45 p.m. to the music of Brian Hollands and the Accordionettes. Admission 3/6 (1/6). DRAW TICKETS on sale beforehand.
  3. Come to the BREAD and CHEESE LUNCH at the Vicarage on Wednesday, 18th May.
  4. Send something new or second-hand to the CHRISTIAN AID SHOP in Sittingbourne open 5th to 14th May. This includes a daily "cake and marmalade" stall.
  5. Sell a BOOK OF "SURVIVAL TICKETS" (obtainable at Vicarage) at work or at school or at club.
  6. Save all your POSTAGE STAMPS, English or foreign, and send them to me at the Vicarage.
  7. Stage you own special INDIVIDUAL EFFORT.
