Women's Institute
At the November meeting we learned reluctantly that Mrs. Trickle was not able to stand again as candidate for the next presidency. Mrs. Ingle was the very popular choice for the new president, supported by Mrs. Rowland as secretary and Mrs. Kelvie, as treasurer, both of whom have given sterling service in the past year. Mesdames Harlow, Lawrence, Partridge, Marshall, Ingleton, Williamson and Wallis complete the committee.
Hostess Mrs. Jarrett will appreciate your support in her preparations to make Members' Day, December 13th, a great success and a happy party.
Finally, in her review of the year's events the secretary recalled one of the highlights of our efforts - that lovely sunny day in May when we entertained the London pensioners - and now, as Christmas draws near, we remember, and hope from our hearts that the sun still shines for them.

Guides and Brownies
Summer seems far away, but happy memories of our holiday in Denmark remain; it was a great success, enjoyed by everyone, and the day in Sweden was marvellous. We had two meetings with Danish Guides and some of our girls now have "pen friends". This term the Company are enjoying handicrafts, thanks to the kindness of Mrs. Green, who is teaching lamp-shade making, and Mrs. Douglass, who takes a group for soft toy making. Guides and Brownies are now meeting in Hartlip School, for which we are grateful to Mr. Ford. We should like to thank the committee of the Methodist Church who have let us use their hall for so many years.
With great regret my family and I have left Hartlip where we have been so happy; may we take this opportunity of thanking everyone who has helped us, and from the start made us welcome. The new address is Dean's Bottom Farm, Bredgar.

Youth Club
Our Christmas Old Time and Modern Dance and Grand Draw is on December 10th and donations of prizes for the draw will be gratefully received. Tickets for the Dance and Draw are on sale now. On December 16th everybody is welcome to our Christmas Film Show at 8 p.m. Films are "Carry on Spying", a cartoon and a "Keystone Kops" comedy. (Adults, 1/6, Children free.) Our Carol Singing this year is on December 21st and 22nd and is in aid of a children's charity to be named later. There are still a few seats on our Ice Show outing (January 28th) and the New Year's Eve outing to Leicester Square. Once again we are hoping to distribute coal to a few of our older friends in the village, and we would like to wish everyone a happy Christmas and New Year.

A CHRISTMAS PRAYER - by Robert Louis Stevenson
"Help us rightly to remember the birth of Jesus that we may share in the song of the angels, the gladness of the shepherds and the worship of the wise men. Close the door of hate and open the door of love all over the world. Let kindness come with every gift and desires with every greeting. Deliver us from evil by the blessing that Christ brings, and teach us to be merry with clear hearts. May the Christmas morning make us happy to be Thy children and the Christmas evening bring us to our beds with grateful thoughts, forgiving and forgiven, for Jesus' sake, Amen."
