Parochial Lay Reader

Mr. Bernard Ambrose, our Lay Reader, has asked leave of leave of absence from his Reader's duties for a year, for reasons of business and health. He hopes to be able to resume them in 1966 and to receive back his licence as a lay reader. I am, of course, already missing his help and much hope that it will not be too long before we again see him in his stall in the chancel.

LENT 1965 - Some arrangements

"Mutual Responsibility and Interdependence in the Body of Christ" - the title of a statement drawn up by Anglican leaders at the 1963 Toronto Congress. The Archbishop has asked us to base our Lent study and thinking along the lines of the Toronto statement - "M.R.1." for short. One of the things this means is that we should be a "Caring Church". It also calls for self-examination and renewal - in fact, "No Small Change", the slogan of the whole Lent course.

Wednesday evenings - Discussion Group (7.30 at Vicarage).

Mar. 3 the Parish looks at its purpose.
10 the Parish looks at "God's People" (film strip, commentary and discussion).
17 the Caring Church (1) Police Court Mission Mr. W. Spurgeon.
24 the Caring Church (2) "The Church and the Alcoholic" Mr. W. G. Miller.
31 the Caring Church (3) "The Samaritans", Mrs. Goodall.

Sunday evenings - Course of Sermons, at Evensong.

There will be visiting preachers on 14th and 21st March. Full details of this Course and of all Lent arrangements will be found on our special Lent card, obtainable in church.
