The fete bore a new look this year, in several ways - a different and better type of stall, a new arrangement of the stalls, a colourful display of camping equipment by O'Meara Camping of London, a demonstration of go-carts by Mr. Merryweather, and of a 1901 Benz by courtesy of Mr. R. Andrews. Our friends from Buckinghamshire once again gave an excellent demonstration of tug of war. Next year Mr. B. Smith hopes to find a local team capable of competing with them. Incidentally it was good to see Mrs. Smith there again after her illness.
The children's competitions and races also had something of a new look. The Peter Pan Starlets gave two dancing displays in spite of having another engagement elsewhere. The usual stalls and competitions were there, plus one or two newcomers, such as the Children's Toys and the Youth Club's Ernie Board - both of which proved very profitable.
It is believed that two records were broken. The profit was about £160 - a record, and the Bowling for the Pig was won for, the first time by a lady - Mrs. Dixon. The Lucky Programme has not yet been found. It is No. 259 and the prize is waiting to be claimed.
A bouquet was presented to Mrs. Covill by Anthony and Michelle Faust. The thanks of the chairman and committee go to all those who contributed to the success of the fete.
Next month - a Car Rally will be organised - on Saturday, 4th September, in aid of Village Hall Funds. Entrants should report to the Hall from 6.30 p.m.
