ROUND THE SOCIETIES
Mothers' Union
At a short Enrolment Service in the Lady Chapel before our March meeting we welcomed Mrs. Marshall to our Branch. Later in the Hall we enjoyed listening to Canon Lambert, from Lower Halstow, describing his work as a missionary in Madagascar. He gave us colourful and vivid descriptions (assisted by photographs) of his long journeys from one isolated village to another. In many cases he was the first white man the natives had seen and his teaching the first mention of Christianity.
Next month, 8th April - we welcome Mrs. Illingworth on a return visit to the Branch.

16th March - "Kentish Forestry", Colonel Black
Forestry is a craft, and our speaker: a craftsman in his own right, divulged a few of his secrets. The military mind martials his mixed troops and ranks them according to type. From the newest sapling of the most recent acquisition, to the oldest and most traditional variety; all receive the same tender care and attention, for all are growing on Kentish soil.
Thank you, Colonel and Mrs. Black for coming from Milsted, for the wonderful slides of your trees shown in the true colours of nature which need no embellishment.
The twenty-two members each returned to her garden having caught a little of our visitors' enthusiasm to overcome the havoc of the March winds.
Next month, 20th April - Lana, ex-Hartnell Model.

Women's Institute
Mrs Trickle presided at the March meeting which was well attended, to hear Miss Hedditch talking on "The Care of the Hair", for which Mrs. Lawrence gave a vote of thanks. Miss Whitehead won the competition for the best dolls patchwork quilts.
Final arrangements were made for the visit to the Ideal Home Exhibition which took place on Monday the 15th. Members who went had an enjoyable, if somewhat exhausting day.
The "money-raiser" which was held on Wednesday 17th in the form of a coffee morning acid bring and buy sale, was a joint effort by Mrs. Marshall, Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Rowland, at Parsonage Cottage, and was most enjoyable and successful raising £6.
The next of these "money-raisers" will be a Beetle Drive on April 7th at 2.30 p.m. at "Pelistry", Yelsted, by kind permission of Mrs. Williamson.
