PARISH NOTES
A Warm Welcome
Is extended to several families who have recently taken up residence in the village - Mr. and Mrs. Norman and their two children, who have come from Sittingbourne to live at "Omega", Mill Road; Mr. and Mrs. Lancum and 3½-year-old Pauline, who have bought a house in Dane Close; Commander and Mrs. Parker, who have also moved Into Dane Close from Penenden Heath, Maidstone; and Major Dick Patterson, Canadian Army, and his wife and two children, who are living at the Cottage.
Farewell
And best wishes to Major and Mrs. Yerburgh, as they go to Berlin. Major Yerburgh is to command a Field Squadron, R.E., and we wish them a trouble-free stay in that important city.
Our Sincere Sympathy
Is extended to the family of Mrs. Harriet Stace who died recently in Milton Hospital after a stroke some six months ago. Mr. and Mrs. Stace were only the second family to take over one of the smallholdings, in the 1930s and had lived in Spade Lane ever since. Our sympathy is also extended to Frank Gowing on the death of his mother, Mrs. Doris Gowing, once of Hartlip.
Congratulations
To Mr. William Wakeley and all who work for him on gaining two 2nds and several 3rds for cherries at the Kent County Show.
Retirement
The Rev. Wallace Edwards, Vicar of Stockbury for 20 years, resigned his living on 31st July and we wish him a long and happy retirement. He has been a friendly and most helpful colleague, always willing to take services, and I am very grateful.
Air Photos
A London firm has sent me two air photos of the centre of the village, recently taken. If anyone is interested, please contact me after 16th August
Voluntary Service
A comprehensive booklet on this subject in respect of young people and adults is available in my study for inspection by anyone interested.
