PARISH NOTES

Musical Recital

As our usual prelude to St. Michael and All Angels Day, Evensong on 25th September was followed by a recital, this year a vocal and instrumental one of mainly 16th and 17th century music, including such well-known composers as Weelkes, Purcell and Handel. We are particularly indebted to Richard Carleton (of Rainham) and Harold Freegard (of Sittingbourne) for organising this varied and very enjoyable programme. The following took part: Lesley Perkins (soprano), Albert McGill (alto), Richard Carleton, (tenor), William Griffin (bass); Harold Freegard (organ.); Alison Freegard (flute).

Harvest Offerings

Were distributed as usual to Keycol Hospital, St. David's Children's Home, Broadstairs, and several house-bound parishioners. A few items were retained for my Samaritan's Cupboard.

A Warm Welcome

Is offered to several families who have recently arrived in the village - Mr. and Mrs. Pooley, and Stephen and Glenda, who have come from Gillingham to live at "Flowerdown"; Mr. and Mrs. Powney to Amber Cottage, Dane Lane; Mr. and Mrs. Haynes, and Tony and Geoffrey, at Oak Barn Cottages; and Mr. and Mrs. Stafford and their two children who have exchanged Twydall for Grainy Field.

Our Best Wishes

Go to Mr. and Mrs. Parker in their retirement at Newington. Mr. Parker has been a familiar figure in the Dane Lane orchards and as a true countryman seemed at his happiest either pruning or working in his garden. We shall also miss Mr. and. Mrs. Pemble and Barbara and Janice in our community life, Mrs. Pemble having been Lieutenant in our Guide Company and more recently having regularly assisted in the cleaning of the church. We hope they will be very happy at Twydall.

Money raising

Our Magazine Account was credited with £42 16s. 9d, from an excellent Jumble Sale. Our Fabric Fund benefitted by £23 from the very pleasant Wine and Cheese Party at Thrognall Farm Cottage. In addition I have received a guinea from Mrs. Marshall, on behalf of W.I. members, as a further contribution from this parish to the "Feed The Minds" campaign. Well done and thank you all who helped in any way.
