VICAR'S LETTER.

Dear People,

Some of us have been saddened by the news of the grievious loss sustained by our good friends Captain and Mrs. Marks, in the death of their second son Malcolm. He became ill at his school in Oxford and after some weeks of illness, the call came to a Higher Life. The parents whilst here entered so fully into our Church and Village life that we many of us feel a real sympathy with them in their grief at parting with a boy so full of promise, and we pray that God may give His comfort under the weight of this heavy blow.

The Missionary Festival held in the Vicarage Garden was a great success, and the two venerable Missionary Societies to whom our takings have been forwarded, have sent letters of sincere thanks to all the helpers. I am sure we all of us felt it a true privilege to thus help on the Overseas work and to be linked with Rainham and the other villages in this unselfish effort.

The Sunday School will start again on Sunday, August 18th.

The Harvest Festival will be on Friday, September 27th, and observed also on the following Sunday, which is our Dedication Festival. The Venerable Archdeacon Sopwith is coming on Friday to be the special preacher. I hope to announce another preacher for the Sunday in the next issue of the Magazine.

Your sincerely,

CECIL G. MUTTER

BAPTISM.

July 7th - Margaret, daughter of Frank and the late Esther Freed.

WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP.

Mrs. Noble gave a garden party at Dane House to the members and some friends on July 11th. The weather was perfect. It was a jolly affair, for this hostess always knows how to keep her guests thoroughly amused. The charades and competitions were very funny, and all were grateful to Mrs. Noble for providing such a happy occasion.

G.F.S.

A small party of members with Mrs. Mutter, their leader, journeyed to Canterbury on July 27th to take part in the great Jubilee Service held in the Cathedral there. A big procession with banners formed in the Dane John gardens and walked through the streets to the service, at which the Archbishop preached. The banner bearers and supporters were in white with blue veils, and this big procession made a great impression on the crowds which lined the way. Tea, was served in the Chapter House and Cloisters afterwards.

MOTHERS' UNION.

The next meeting will be on Wednesday, August 14th, in the Church at 3 p.m. The Vicar and Mrs.

Mutter invite all the members afterwards to tea on the lawn at the Vicarage. A little party of our members were able to accept Mrs. Day's invitation to a meeting at Berengrave House, Rainham, on July 10th, and had the pleasure of hearing Mrs. Lister, the Diocesan Secretary, speaking to the Rainham Branch and their friends. All were afterwards entertained to tea. Our thanks go to Mrs. Day for her kind invitation to us.
