January 1931 : page 2 (of 2)
May the New Year bring much happiness to all readers of and contributors to our Parish Magazine. Not forgetting our absent friends.
Christmas has passed once again. The ringers called us with Merry peals to our services on Christmas morning, which were taken at 8 and 11 o'clock by the Rev. J. A. Harding, M.A., son of the Vicar of Halstow.
The Church, as usual, was decorated with much taste by the ladies of the parish.
A full Choir, in attendance under the guidance of Mr. R. C. J. Southgate, with Mr. Lilwall at the organ, added much to the beauty of the services.
On St. Thomas's Day the Dole under the will of Mary Gibbon, was distributed to eight widows, at the conclusion of the afternoon service, by the Churchwardens, acting as Sequestrators of the Living, during the vacancy.
The various Parish Accounts for the year 1930 will be issued with the February number of the Magazine.
We are glad to learn that the Parish Hall Committee has added to its numbers, with a view to obtaining the various views of the different committees, and under the able Chairmanship of Mr. H. B. G. Faussett-Osborne, who is giving much time and thought to this long wanted need, we shall hope shortly to have definite plans before a Parish Meeting.
The following Prayer found in Chester Cathedral has been sent to us by a well-wisher :-
Give me a good digestion Lord,
And also something to digest:
Give me a healthy body, Lord,
With sense to keep it at its best.
Give me a healthy mind, good Lord,
To keep the good and pure in sight;
Which seeing sin is not appalled,
But Ends a way to set it right.
Give me a mind that is not bored;
That does not wimper, whine, or sigh;
Don't let me worry overmuch,
About the fussy thing called "I."
Give me a sense of humour, Lord;
Give me the grace to see a joke:
To get some happiness from life
And pass it on to other folk.
