Bonchurch,
Isle of Wight
July 9th, 1929.

My dear Friends,-

We are now staying at a beautiful spot in the Island, and are having very nice weather with much sunshine. It is not hot, but from all I hear, much warmer than it has been in Kent. Although I am better, I regret to say that I am afraid there is no chance of my being allowed to come home just yet. An X-ray photograph of my chest was taken at the Ventnor National Hospital a fortnight ago, but this did not satisfy the doctors as to exactly what is wrong, and I am now to go to London for a further examination.

The Magazine will be very late in reaching you this month, but I have been delaying writing it hoping that I might be able to put in it the statement (mentioned last month) about the financial result of the fete. As this has not reached me I presume there has been some unexpected delay in getting it out, and so it must be held over until the August Magazine.

It is proposed that Sunday, July 28th, should be observed in the Sittingbourne neighbourhood as "Bible Sunday," to bring before people "the place the Bible has in our own religious life, and the necessity for supplying the Bible in their own language to converts to Christianity." I am glad to know that Hartlip will join in this observance. I believe that there is to be a special preacher in the morning at least, but I have no doubt that notice of any arrangements made will be given. I hope you will make a special effort to be at Church on this Sunday.

Although we have had many kind letters from friends at home, I do not feel that I am enough in touch with current events in the village to write about them in the Magazine, so my letter is a short one.

I remain,

Your sincere Friend and Vicar,
D. H. CREATON.
