My Dear Friends,-

Being away from home, and Mr. Southgate having again kindly written about the great event of Whit-Monday (with a further instalment to follow next month I am pleased to say) my letter will be quite short. It was delightful to hear of the splendid success of the Fete, and of the very happy spirit in which everybody worked for it. We all feel that the Fete has been a big step towards the goal. Many nice things have been said about our Church, and the services, by those who have been officiating in it lately. The parents of our Sunday School children will, I am sure, like to hear what Canon Burnside, the Headmaster of St. Edmund's School, Canterbury, wrote after his visit to Hartlip on Easter Day. "The children's service impressed me immensely. To gather so many children with so small a population, and to have them under such excellent and kindly discipline was delightful to see." We all like the children praised.

Mr. Ball will be with you before the Magazine is in circulation, and I am quite sure you will give him a hearty welcome to Hartlip again. I am glad to say that we are already feeling the benefit of our stay here, and the change of air.

I remain,

Your sincere Friend and Vicar,
D. H. CREATON.

THE WOMEN'S MEETING OUTING. - This will be to Ramsgate on Tuesday, July 16th, starting from the Church at 7 a.m. Mr. Thompson will provide a 32-seater motor, and also a 14-seater if required, at 5/0 per head, but of course it will be necessary to fill up all the seats at this price. Miss Faussett-Osborne has kindly consented to receive the names of those who wish to go on the outing, but they must be given to her not later than Friday, July 12th.

THE FETE.

The first two of our wants which appeared in last month's Magazine were fully answered. The day was ideal, and the crowd far exceeded the expectations of the most sanguine amongst us. With regard to the third "want," although we may not quite reach the figure at which we aimed, I think we shall find when all the accounts have been settled that the Parish Hall Fund will have been swelled by well over £100.

The village ways early astir, and Mr. Kitchingham's meadow was a veritable hive of industry from breakfast time onwards. The various happenings of the day are too fresh in the minds of us all to need any repetition here, but certain incidents do stand out, and are worthy of mention. First and foremost was the whole-hearted manner in which everybody threw himself or herself into the business. It was the "team spirit" which en-

abled the Show to be carried out successfully. The Fancy Dress Parade is still being talked of. As the procession entered the meadow one was forcibly reminded of Banquo's words to Macbeth

"What are these,
So witer'd, and so wild in their attire;
That look not like the inhabitants o' the earth
And yet are on't"

Several little things did not work out quite according to programme, but I hope that the lessons have been been learned and when the next Show takes place we shall see improvements in those directions. I wrote in last month's notes that I hoped to call upon everybody in the parish, but my hopes were not realised. To those whom I did not manage to visit I tender my apologies with the promise that on the next occasion they shall be the first on the list. I entered upon the task of visiting with a certain amount or trepidation - not having preciously tried my tongue at "cadging" - but I soon found out that it might almost be called a "walk over." Everyone responded most generously, and I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all who gave so readily. The Spirit was grand.

In next month's notes I hope to be able to give the exact total to be handed to the Fund.
