Walmer,
July 2nd, 1928.

My dear Friends,

We are having a very healthful time here. Walmer is a very bracing place, especially with this strong wind. It must be nice weather also for the cherry picking and hay making at Hartlip.

"Moderate" Church people are disappointed that the Revised Prayer Book was again rejected by the House of Commons. Once more a majority of the members representing English constituencies voted for it. There seems to be something wrong when the labour of many years, approved by the Parliament of the Church, is so upset. Perhaps, however, it may be well that the Church should be more united in the matter before a Revised Prayer Book is sanctioned. Exactly what is to happen now we can't tell. Had the new Book been authorised we in Hartlip should have carefully considered it in detail in the Church Council, and decided how far it would be well for use to use it in our Church. As things stand we can only wait and see what advice is given us by our leaders. We must not do anything that is not loyal and right, but it seems a pity that we should be deprived of much that is valuable and helpful in the new book.

On Tuesday, June 19th, the members of the Women's Meeting had a very enjoyable outing to Deal. Two charabancs started from the Church soon after 7 a.m. Although at first the weather was threatening, no rain came, and soon after the party reached Deal (after an enjoyable drive through Canterbury, Wingham, and Ash) the sun came out, and with the exception of a slight shower on the way home, the weather was fine all day. Tea was taken at the "Cabin" Restaurant, where, to the great pleasure of all, Mrs. and Miss Finnis joined the party. The return journey was made via Dover, and home was reached about 9.30 p.m.

In spite of the rather chilly evening we were glad to see quite a number of people in the Vicarage Garden on Sunday, June 17th, after the even-

ing service, to listen to the Band. It is to play in the garden again on July 15th, and I hope the weather may then be more pleasant for sitting out. On Sunday, July 29th, the Band will play a selection of sacred music in the church. We always try to arrange for some special music after evensong on the 5th Sunday in the month, and we were pleased to accept the offer of the Band to provide it in July.

I remain,

Your sincere friend and Vicar,
D. H. CREATON.
