ROUND THE SOCIETIES

Women's Institute

Ancient documents, including maps, wills, account books and recipes, were used by Miss R. Phillips from the County Archives Department to illustrate her talk about Hartlip residents of long ago. One cake recipe needed 40 eggs! Mrs. Pat Tong proposed a vote of thanks. The competition for "the prettiest plate" attracted many entries and was won by Mrs. Hawkins.

Plans were made for a visit to Yelsted Pottery on 15th October, to the W.I. Council meeting at Sittingbourne Town Hall on 22nd October and to the travelling exhibition "The W.I. Shop Window" at Bobbing Village Hall on 28th October.

Next meeting - 8th October. Mrs. J. Peacock, "The History of Hairdressing".

Young Wives' Fellowship

September 17th started another year for Young Wives and we were pleased to welcome three new members. We have a very full and entertaining programme for the coming year. Who better to start our meetings off than our own Vicar, the Rev. T. Green, who kindly gave us a talk entitled "A day in the life of a country vicar", and this day from his diary was indeed a very full one. We are going to miss the Rev. and Mrs. Green, who was one of our members. Young Wives have been invited, though, to spend next year's Garden Party at their new home, Sandhurst Rectory, to which we shall very much look forward.

The Village Hall is going to have central heating installed this winter and Young Wives propose to hold a Wine and Cheese Party, the proceeds of which will go towards this Heating Fund.
