ROUND THE SOCIETIES
Women's Institute
"A Carnival of Salads" was an apt title for the gay and colourful demonstration by Mrs. G. W. Strachan. Mrs. Partridge proposed the vote of thanks. The competition for a fruit flan was won by Miss E. Whitehead. Mrs. E. Brown, of Borden W.I., gave a descriptive account of her visit to the Royal Albert Hall for the A.G.M. On 13th June members and friends had an enjoyable morning at Acorn Cottage, when over £11 was raised for Village Hall funds.
Next meeting - 9th July, when Miss J. Degan will speak on "When I broadcast on Woman's Hour".

Young Wives' Fellowship
The Young Wives brought their session to a close with a garden party at Treeways on 18th June, by kind invitation of Mrs. Fentiman. This was a very pleasant and enjoyable occasion, although we were very sorry to have to say goodbye to Mrs. Green, whom we shall miss greatly.
Although organised meetings have ceased for the summer months, we are to be found on warm Tuesday evenings, improving our cricket and our knowledge of local affairs at the recreation ground, in hopeful preparation for another Husbands v. Wives cricket match later in the summer.

Village Hall
Rain won't stop us, we'll improvise; and we did, to have a very happy evening on 22nd June. The barbecue went on, sideshows were moved, the Scottish dancers put on an extra display. The people who came so enjoyed themselves that stalls were sold out and a very welcome £90 raised for Hall funds. Thank you, stallholders, prize donors and everyone else who helped both before, during and after the evening.

Cricket Club
Morale is extremely good. David Ford has scored the first century for several years, possibly only the fifth in the history of the club. There has been one good win and one can add with some truth that the favourable draw and the narrow defeat could easily have been turned into two more victories. Thanks to Mr. Knight and his heavy motor-mower, the outfield is also vastly improved. Come and support us - as spectator or, even better, as umpire.
