ROUND THE SOCIETIES

Christian Fellowship

Thanks to the faithful 50 odd people who braved appalling weather, the New Year Party produced about £11 for Save the Children Fund. Special thanks are also due to 1, the Band, who gave their services, 2, the donors of raffle prizes (Brig. and Mrs. Orr, Col. and Mrs. Macklen, Mr. and Mrs. Tong, Mr. and Mrs. Ingle, the "Rose and Crown", Mr. and Mrs. Dalrymple, and 3, those who gave donations.

Looking ahead to the meeting on 28th March, please note these instructions. If you would like expert comment by a professional photographer, look out your very best colour slides; submit them - not more than six per person - to me, not later than the Fellowship meeting on 22nd February. It is a wonderful opportunity to test your standard and to improve it.

Young Wives' Fellowship

The organisation of our New Year Party on 9th January was severely hampered by the weather and prevailing germs. We are very grateful to Mrs. Noble, to Mr. Arthur Brown and his helpers and to all who helped to make it such a successful evening in spite of the difficulties.

On 6th February there is to be a talk on seeds, by Mr. Hull, and there will be a discussion evening on the 20th.

Women's Institute.

In the absence of the advertised speaker, Mrs. Miles spoke on her recent visit to Canada, illustrated with slides and a record of the centennial song, sung in English and French. There were some good entries for the competition for a decorated wooden spoon; Mrs. Hawkins won the prize with a scarecrow wearing an "I'm backing Britain" flag. Members are reminded that sewing meetings are still being held in preparation for the Spring Fair. Old nylons and material pieces are still needed. It was also suggested that members be asked to bring a bottle or tin of something to the next three meetings for the bottle stall.

Village Hall

The Hall is now in full use after renovations and we are most grateful to everyone who helped to complete them. It has been necessary to increase hiring charges as the income has not covered essential expenses. Approximately £150 a year, in addition to rent, is needed to keep the Hall functioning and in good repair. In recent years there has not been enough support for money-raising efforts to realise this sum. Future plans will be discussed at the Annual General Meeting on 7th .... (cont.)
