FROM THE METHODIST MINISTER
Dear Friends,
At the Methodist Church we are particularly looking forward to Easter Week. On Tuesday, 9th April, we shall be sharing in the joint service at the Parish Church. Then on Good Friday we shall be holding our Chapel Anniversary. Tea will be served at 5 p.m., followed by the service at 6.15 p.m. The choir from St. Peter's Methodist Church, Gillingham, will help to lead the worship.
Some may feel that Good Friday is not a good day for such an anniversary. However, quite apart from practical considerations, it is not a bad idea to link the anniversary of a building with the central event of the faith which it is designed to serve.
The death of Jesus is at the heart of our faith. It is not for nothing that the cross is the symbol of Christianity. The resurrection indicates that the life and death of Jesus are significant - that God really significant - that was at work in Him; but what is actually revealed about the love and foregiveness of God is seen most clearly in the cross.
A church is built to help to proclaim this good news of the revelation of God in Christ. So on Good Friday we shall celebrate both God's Activity in the death of Christ and the part that the Methodist Chapel has played and continues to play in remembering and proclaiming that activity.
Yours sincerely,
David Lapworth.
PARISH NOTES
Warm Congratulations
To Mr. and Mrs. Titcomb, who celebrated their Golden Wedding on Saturday, 29th March. The bellringers rang a peal of changes in their honour in the afternoon. We wish them many more years of happy married life.
Invalids
We are pleased to report some good progress - Miss Danby may return home early April, Mr. Cooper can now move his right leg and arm a little, Mr. Ambrose is allowed to drive his car, Mrs. Stace is now in Milton Hospital (where she seems to be happier), but Rev. J. Burley (Vicar, 1946) remains rather ill at his Scarborough home.
Churchyard
Mr. and Mrs Wallis have kindly given and planted five new pink floribunda roses in the bed nearest the school.
A Parishioner
By means of regular sales of jams and marmalade has made £20 for Church Funds since last April. A very commendable effort. Could anyone else follow suit?
Sick Communions
Will be gladly arranged for any who are prevented by illness or infirmity from making their Easter Communion. Please do not hesitate to ask.
