PARISH NOTES

God Speed

To Malcolm and Hélène Alexander, recently married here, who leave this month for the Bunyoro area of Uganda. Their first home will be a native-type hut and they hope to play a leading part in a Christian Aid financed project to teach the Ugandans to grow tea. Jointly organised by the Government and Church of Uganda, the project is in charge of Stephen Carr, C.M.S. missionary agriculturist, who is linked with the Medway Towns. We are hoping to maintain a link with Malcolm and Helene, who have already talked to the Church Council about their work.

Warm Thanks

Are due to Mr. and Mrs. Bob Pope, who recently repainted, at their own expressed wish, the Parish Church flagpole. This meant several evenings' hard work on top of the tower and we are delighted to record this example of Anglican-Methodist relations.

The Magazine

Account improved by £37 as a result of the Jumble Sale. Thank you, all those who helped in any way, especially the stallholders who faithfully support this event each year. Nowadays this includes a group of older schoolchildren who collect for and serve behind the toy stall.

Dr. Barnardo's

Benefitted by £7 5s. from the Coffee Morning at the vicarage; thank you, all those who supported it.

Bazaar

A reminder that our Bazaar is on Saturday, 2nd December. There will be a meeting at the School on Thursday, 19th October, at 8 p.m. for all those who are interested in helping in any way.

Farewell

And best wishes to Mr. and Mrs. Scott, who leave the village this month after 22 years' residence, to enjoy retirement in Sheerness. The W.I. have referred elsewhere to their loss. We shall all miss their productive garden which was one of the features of The Street. Mr. Scott was also the last holder of the demanding post of church stoker, which he did faithfully and skilfully.

Farewell

And best wishes also to Mr. and Mrs. Hill, and Paul and Sharon, of London Road, who move this month to take over an off-licence business in Gillingham.
