VICAR'S LETTER.
My dear People, - One thought will fill our minds at this time, and that is the Silver Jubilee of our Sovereign, His Majesty King George. Our King and Queen, with their Royal Family, are firmly entrenched in the affections of the British people, and the rejoicing will be glad and sincere.
Hartlip will do its best to enter fully into the true Jubilee spirit of Thanksgiving. The Local Committee are doing their utmost to provide a memorable day in our village, and we hope for the proverbial King's weather for the occasion.
First, I bid you all to the Service of Thanksgiving, in our Parish Church, at 10 a.m. By the King's command services are to be held in all the places of worship in the land, so that loyal subjects may join in spirit with the Royal Family in their thanksgiving in St. Paul's Cathedral, London.
Every home in Hartlip is to receive a programme of the local celebration and this will convey to you all an invitation to the Jubilee Tea in the Parish Hall.
I must express my thanks to the Rev. S. R. Griggs, our special Lenten preacher, and to the clergy of St. John's, Chatham, for the help they gave.
The Easter Festival was well attended. Ninety-eight was the number of Communicants. I thank you all for your generous Easter Offering, which goes to help meet the charge on this Cure for dilapidations.
Your sincerely,
CECIL G. MUTTER
BURIAL.

DISTRICT NURSE.
Our readers will like to know that a Miss Ashley is coming to take up residence here on May 1st. She will reside with Mrs. Everest on the Lower Road, and she will act as Nurse for the united parishes of Stockbury, Bredhurst, and Hartlip. Mrs. Boyall, of Paradise Farm House, is the local Secretary, from whom all particulars can be obtained. This Local Nursing Association now formed is, of course, not a Church organisation, and the Nurse's services will be available for all residents who join the Association.
The small weekly charge of 2d. a home would never pay the worker's salary, and so we are indebted to our richer friends for their most generous donations towards making it possible for a Nurse to be kept here. The Scheme has the hearty commendation of the local doctors, who say what a real help to them a good trained nurse will be. It will also relieve St. Bartholomew's Hospital, and permit sick people to remain oftentimes in their own homes, when otherwise the doctors would have had to send patients away. Time will prove the value of having a resident Nurse in our midst, and with a surely increasing population the need would have soon become insistent. Let us give Nurse Ashley a warm welcome on her arrival.
MOTHERS' UNION.
The Deanery Summer Festival will be at Rainham Vicarage on May 15th. The Bishop of Dover will preach at the Church Service which precedes it. Time, 3 p.m.
WOMEN'S FELLOWSHIP.
The members, together with our Girls' Friendly Society, will have a Sale of Work and a Jumble Sale on June 1st at 2.30 p.m. in the Village Hall. A splendid lot of useful and ornamental articles, new and secondhand will be on sale.
Any goods left over will he retained for another sale later on, unless we sell out, as we earnestly hope we may.
Tea will be provided, and a small charge of 2d. made for admission.
The proceeds are to be given to the Local Nursing Association. Secondhand goods may be sent to the Vicarage any time before the date.
MISSIONARY FESTIVAL.
A Missionary Sale will be held in the Vicarage Grounds, either at the end of June or beginning of July. This is a preliminary announcement. Last year it was at Rainham. The parishes which take part are Rainham, Upchurch, Lower Halstow, Newington, Stockbury, and Hartlip. Special speakers come and stalls with produce, foreign curios, books, etc., will be set up. Refreshments will he obtainable and some form of entertainment yet to be decided on.
ANNUAL PARISH MEETING.
This was held on Easter Tuesday. The accounts for the past year were adopted. Lieut.-Col. R. G. E. Locke and Mr. S. Hollands were re-appointed Churchwardens and the Sidesmen were all re-appointed. The Parochial Church Councillors were again re-elected. Mr. T. G. Denson was appointed as representative to the Deanery Conferences, and Mrs. Mutter to the position of woman representative in the place of Miss Faussett-Osborne, who for many years has held the position and now wished to resign.
The Churchwardens undertook to see to the replacement of the flagstaff, which has decayed, on the tower, to get the archway in the Churchyard buttressed as it showed signs of weakening, and to get the Church clock regilded.
The Vicar thanked all the Church workers and School Teachers for their good work.
CONFIRMATION.
This will be at Stockbury on the 23rd, at 7 p.m.
DAY SCHOOLS.
The Inspector sends an excellent report. Space forbids printing it, but it was most satisfactory.
