The Vicarage,
August 29th, 1928.

My dear Friends, -

The Peace Pact which was signed in Paris on August 27th is, we hope and pray, a great step towards permanent peace amongst the nations of the world. The "renunciation of war as an instrument of national policy," and the agreement that a solution of disputes shall be sought only by pacific means is a truly Christian move by the great powers, and as Christians, we thank God for it. It was good to hear our Church bells ringing out a joyful peal on the evening of the signing of the Pact.

Our Sunday School children had a very happy day at Sheerness on August 2nd. After a little rain early, the day was beautifully fine. Paddling in the sea, boats on the pond, and sports filled up the time till tea, and after tea there was some shopping to be done. Our Sunday School party numbered about sixty, and we were glad to have with us some of the parents of the children.

Our thanks are given to the many parishioners who kindly subscribed to the fund, and to Colonel Locke and Mr. Stevens for providing conveyances to take us to and from the station. The balance sheet is printed below.

The Parish Hall Committee met on August 20th, and discussed arrangements for a Grand Fancy Dress Dance which the British Legion is organising on behalf of the fund for Friday, Decembrr 29th. In connection with this prizes are being generously given to attract donations to the fund. So far the Trustees have not been able to put forward any scheme for the erection of a Parish Hall, but it is hoped that before long some definite suggestion may be made.

A meeting of the Church Council was held on August 24th. A report was received from Miss Faussett-Osborne (who was prevented by illness from attending) on the repair of the Church hassocks which was carried out recently. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss Faussett-Osborne and the ladies who assisted her for their useful work, and it was decided to buy a few new hassocks.

The balance sheet of the Sunday School Outing was presented to the Council. This year we could not well have a meeting of the Council to discuss the outing, but the collectors who got in subscriptions last year, most kindly undertook the collection again this year.

I put before the Council the papers I have received in connection with the proposed tribute to the Archbishop, and it was agreed that we should carry out what I proposed in last month's magazine. On all Sundays, up to the first Sunday in October, the subscription list for the Diocesan Tribute will be on a table near the door of the Church, and all are invited to write their names upon it (or to ask the gentleman in charge to do this for them), and to place their contributions in the box on the table. We hope that many names will be on the list sent up from our parish even if the amount given is not large.

Colonel Locke, who is on the Diocesan Committee formed for this purpose, spoke of the great work which the Archbishop has done for the Church, and of his and Mrs. Davidson's intimate connection with our Diocese. Although the box in the Church will be for the Diocesan Tribute, we shall be glad to receive, and to forward any subscriptions to the National Fund. The Churchwardens with Mr. Saunders, kindly agreed to superintend the collection, and it will be helpful if those who propose to subscribe will do so as soon as convenient to them.

I remain,

Your sincere Friend and Vicar,
D. H. CREATON.

Sunday, September 30th will be kept as our "Patronal Festival," being in the Octave of S.S. Michael and All Angels. As it will be a fifth Sunday in the month there will be special music after Evensong. The Harvest Festival will be on Sunday, October 7th.
