The Vicarage,
27th May, 1927.

My Dear Friends, -

At a meeting of the Church Council on May 16th, we considered further the proposed Revision of the Prayer Book, and I had the pleasure of speaking about that part of it which is being made the subject of so much controversy - the Holy Communion Service. I tried to point out and to say something about most of the alterations which are suggested in the Service and to look at the controversial questions from a sound Church of England point of view. At the close of the meeting the following resolution was passed unanimously: "That this Council approves the proposed Revision of the Prayer Book as a whole, and believes that it is in the interest of the Church and Nation that the Prayer Book Measure should speedily become law." It was decided that the Resolution should be sent to the Archbishop and to the Member of Parliament for this Division. This has been done, and Sir Granville Wheler, in reply, says, "I am much obliged for the resolution of May 16th, passed by the Hartlip Parochial Church Council, which has my support." At this meeting a small Committee was chosen to arrange for the Summer Treat for our Sunday School children, and the hope was expressed that funds might be found for taking them to the seaside this year.

Our Village Band is to be congratulated on their performance at Chatham on May 14th, and on the sporting spirit shown in entering the Competition with places which are practically towns. It is a pity that there is not a class in the Competition for small villages, but I suppose the difficulty is that there are so few that can run a band at all, and Hartlip may be proud to have one to show up as it did at Chatham.

On May 23rd twenty-four members of the Mothers' Union went to Maidstone to see the M.U. film, which helped them to realise the greatness of the Society and the splendid work it is doing all over the world.

Our Women's Meeting have chosen Margate as the place for their Summer Outing this year. It is to be on Wednesday, June 15th. All the places for a 33-seater 'bus have been booked, but it is possible to engage a 14-seater one also if enough places are taken, but seats must be booked at once by any others who would like to join the party.

On Whit-Sunday there will be Celebrations of the Holy Communion at 7 a.m., 8 a.m., and midday. In the afternoon there will be a "Flower" Service, and the flowers and eggs brought to it will be sent to the Hospital at Keycol Hill. The Choir will sing an anthem at Matins and Evensong.

Members of the G.F.S. are asked to note that there will be special intercession for the work of the Society at the 8 o'clock service on Sunday, June 19th, and to try to be present at it.

I remain,

Your sincere Friend and Vicar,
D. H. CREATON.
